Yael Bartana

Artist Talk with Yael Bartana, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart
October 17, 2024 at 18.30 PM

A conversation (in English) between artist, curator and the Secretary General of ifa.

Born in Afula (Israel) in 1970, the artist Yael Bartana now lives in Amsterdam and Berlin and deals with issues such as national identity, trauma and displacement. With us, Bartana shows her works in dialogue with works by Max Ernst and lets her "Spaceship", which will also occupy the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale until November 2024, land between his surreal worlds. While Ernst's "Parisian" from 1950 evokes associations with otherworldly beings, Bartana poses the pressing question of how the future can be mastered in the face of current political and social crises. Yael Bartana in conversation with Gitte Zschoch, Secretary General of the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa), and curator Dr. Susanne Kaufmann-Valet. Welcome from Prof. Dr. Christiane Lange, Director of the Staatsgalerie. A curator's tour will take place before the conversation.
