Kristina Nagel directly and often unapologetically makes work about the human body. The people visible in her photographs, carefully picked unconventional models, are closely related to abstract forms of representation due to the fragmentation to which Nagel subjects them. Faces are obscured or blurred, limbs are cut, flesh is captured without a filter, and bodies are positioned at angles that could appear uncomfortable, but serve to build truthful and therefore striking portraits that highlight the complexity of the human body.
