Works on paper are a continuous complement to Lassnig's vibrant oil paintings, using an immediate and impulsive method to externalize her inner thoughts. This expression of the subjective interior is at the heart of Lassnig's practice; indeed, she coined the term "body-feeling painting“. Colours are also associated with a particular emotional world - schooled in the theory of Expressionism, the artist spoke of "pain and agony colors," of "nerve cord and cancer anxiety colors."
"Because it is difficult enough to find a form for the body sensations and their location that you want to project onto the canvas, at the beginning. I limited myself to single colors, usually a simple red, first for the outlines, then as three-dimensional modeling, a red of pain, the body is red when you peel the skin off it, red is the color for – Stop."
