The pioneer figure is an iconic image within Israelis’ collective memory and consciousness. Yael Bartana re-staged selected photographs from the archive of legendary photojournalist Herbert Sonnenfeld in cooperation with Palestinians and Mizrahi Jews. The Jewish Museum Berlin holds a large share of Leni and Herbert Sonnenfeld’s estate, especially photos of Jews in Germany from 1933 to 1938, as part of the museum’s collection.
