'Black Stars Shed No Light' is the phrase illustrated in Yael Bartana‘s neon work, but is also the opening line of the new Finnish anthem as recited the artist‘s film 'True Finn - Tosi suomalainen'. The 2014 film features eight Finnish characters, each of which contributed a sentence to this invented anthem, created to better suit and reflect Finland’s current society and national identity. The film explores the question of who a true FInn is, offering both a counterpoint and reversal of right-wing Finnish nationalism.
