The work depicts Wojciech Karpiński, an art historian and anti-socialist activist who lived in exile in Paris. Later in his life, Karpiński began traveling regularly from Paris to Berlin to engage in cruising at the city’s many gay clubs. According to Karpiński, Parisian gay men were ageists, and, as the title of the work states, it was easier for him to find companionship in the East.
