Andrea Bowers’ work addresses many pressing socio-political issues, eco-feminism and climate justice being especially central to her practice. Storytellingis integral to the artist, and her work often highlights the narratives of resistance and rebellion. With her light objects, Bowers appropriates the aesthetics of the American neon sign to convey her strongly political messages. 'Fight Like a Girl' is a slogan that was omnipresent at the 2017 Women’s March in Washington in reaction to Trump’s inauguration, and continues to carry its belligerent, playful freshness today. The neon work is constructed largely from found recycled materials, itself an act of environmental activism and a comment on consumerism in relation to climate change.
