With 'BeltDecke #6', the dynamics of gender are subverted: the work of sewing and craftsmanship which has traditionally been women‘s labor, is turned into a leather blanket, a tapestry about a different narrativity than the one we are used to. The work visually appears as a black pennant or a medieval coat of arms, symbols of political power, hanging on the wall. Its fabric of interwoven black leather belts, conceived with exemplary thoroughness, relates to the crafts of tapestry and textile, the art techniques that are typically associated with female labor.
